The Cubs beat the Highlanders 4-1 on Tuesday night, behind the complete game pitching performance of Ron Massaroni. Ron scattered 7 Highlanders hits over 7 innings while walking none, striking out 3, and hitting two batters. Ron masterfully pitched out of a bases loaded and one out jam in the first inning; and a runners on second and third with one out jam in the second without allowing the Highlanders to score. The only run Ron allowed came in the fourth inning on a two out bloop single by John Corrigan. The Cubs scored single runs in the 1st, 5th, 6th, and 7th innings. New Cubbies Brian Donnelly and Dan Hernandez led the offensive attack. Brian scored the first run and drove in the eventual game winner, with a long sacrifice fly in the 5th. Dan was 2 for 3, with a double and a single, and scored the 3rd and 4th runs for the Cubs. John Martin added a clutch two out RBI single in the 6th inning. The Highlanders offense was led by Gary Bosco (double and single) and Shaymus Schweitzer (2 singles). Mark Marshall pitched all 7 innings, while taking the loss for the Highlanders.
