The new Braves eked out a victory over the Blue Jays 3-2 in their CDMSBL debut in a tough pitchers duel. John Weber and Mark Denicola both had superb complete game performances, neither of them giving up an earned run. Mark was stingy, giving up 4 hits, one walk with 4 Ks. They both kept the hitters off balance the entire game. The Jays struck first and scored one run in the first inning after Scott Ross reached on an error with 2 outs and was plated on a shot off the fence in left by Pat Alston. Thats where the score remained until the Braves Bob Lipken hustled to first on a strike out / passed ball. Tim Vickerson followed with a single moving Lipken to third, where he scored on a balk by Weber. (All teams take notice here concerning the new balk rule) Marc Trinchillo then followed with another single plating Vickerson from second, giving the Braves the lead. The Braves then scored an important insurance run in the seventh when Mark Denicola scored from second when Steve Schaefer reached on a throwing error to first. The Jays got one back in the bottom of the seventh on a couple of errors, but the Braves finally buckled down and got the final out. Great debut for the Braves against a really tough Blue Jays team.
