Make Satellite field home run happy..!

Have the dimensions been laid out for Sat. field outfield yet?

Would love to see the dimensions such that home runs could be brought into these two divisions!! Four or five dingers a game sure would make these games more exciting.

Looking at the 45 pitching leaders stats last season, we have over 20 guys who apparently had era's under 3, so time to help the hitters!! (Plus I haven't gone deep since playing at the B diamond!!)

Maybe 10 -15 feet shorter than New Scotland? Be like pitching at Fenway!

Thoughts?

You were reading my mind Jonny. I pulled up some aerial photos yesterday and mapped it out and brought the lines in to 285. If we put an outfield arc based on the distance from the mound to the 285' foul poles the fence should be well short of the wooded area in center and the hill in right. Sounds good doesn't it. You'll be hittin dingers in no time! Almost like playing golf from the senior tees.

well it'll have to be shorter than New Scotland. some of the old timers will remember Whitehall... as in "it would have been out of Whitehall"

it has to fit below the soccer fields in left under the point of land jutting out in Center and above the hill in right. and as Randy says thats about 285 down the lines and less than 300 to center. no more attempts at the those grueling inside the park homers.

We did submit a aerial photo based layout of these dimensions and Scott will plotting it out prior to Saturday so we can go to fence building right away. jreel

Short porch in left.
I am disappointed.
Nah, I couldn't get that out with a straight face!

I think the New Scot dimensions are perfect for our league . If Satellite allows, we should mirror those numbers. There are many 45+ players that are capable of going yard at that park. I think anything less would be a joke. Remember the old American Legion days? Don't make a mockery of the league just to fulfill youthful fantasies. Make them earn their dingers.biggrin

Some good points -

Keeping in mind that field will be used by both 45 and 55 divisions - if a 55-60 year old man pops one some 280 - 300 feet, I'm tipping my cap and watching him trot around the bases!!

Hell, every new major league park that gets constructed has significantly shortened their fences - everyone loves the long ball!!

Don't forget, smaller parks also take away so many dinkers and dunkers because your outfielders are playing that much shallower.

Maybe John and Scott could poll their respective managers for some feedback? Also, I assume its a temporary fence to be installed...therefore could adjust after a season if need be.

See ya Saturday

Jonny

PS Nice compromise might be 340 in left and 240 in right!!! :)

Map revised.......when I saw CF was only going to be about 306 I remapped it at 290 down the lines and dragged the arc out to 330 in center which is right on the edge of the field. That's about as good as it gets. Unless you hit it right down the line you'll have to put a 300' charge into it. At 45 that's a good poke, and at damn near 60 I won't be fulfilling any fantasies. Balls aren't going to fly out of there on a regular basis. Even Freddy Mercury won't be adding that many more to the total.

Remember that at West Albany with its small dimensions, it was nearly impossible to score on a single from second or from first on a double. Taking that extra base or getting that out when the runner is attempting it, is more interesting than a 307 foot homer to dead center. Make the distances, a worthy shot. I like the New Scotland dimensions or American Legion depth. Not too close or too far.

JMart is right. Everyone does love the long ball, emphasis on LONG!!!! No one loves a pop up home run that would have been an out on any other field.
