Capital District Cubs 8 South Side Shock 0

The Cubs faced a short handed South Side Shock (south side of Long Island) in game one.
Ron Massaroni got the start and pitched 6 scoreless innings. Ralph Caputo pitched innings 7 and 8, and Teddy Poleto cleaned up the 9th to record the game one shut out.
The offense came in just two innings for the Cubs, but those two innings were big ones.
The Cubs scored 3 in the bottom of the first on singles by Randy Craft, Mike Girard, Dave Mitchell and a bases clearing, two-out, 3 run, double by Ron Lochner.
The Long Island pitcher kept the Cubs bats quiet after the first, until the bottom of the sixth.
The Cubs plated 5 more runs to break the game open, in the bottom of the sixth, and coast to an easy 8-0 victory.
I don't have the book so I can't break down the 6th inning rally for you, but Tom Maney, Tim Brown, and Randy Craft started the rally with consecutive singles to ignite the fire!
The Cubbie ended day one in first place in their division, but face a daunting task today with a double header against Venezuela and, 2010 champ, Montgomery County Yankees.
Can't wait to take this challenge head on with my guys!!!

If you're scoring at home, that's post 999 for Mr. Girard; will his status change once he hits 1000? What could possibly come after Grand Poobah?

Great jobs guys. Keep up the good work. Bring the trophy home to Albany.

I played with the Maine Indian at the Roy Hobbs WS in Ft Myers. We made it to the championship game and lost.

Good luck

Now the book in front of me, I would like to add that Dave Mitchell was 3 for 3, with a run scored and 2 RBI.
Randy Craft was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Shawn Maney was 2 for 3, with a run scored, in his first Fall Classic appearance!
Ron Massaroni, in his six innings of work, gave up just two singles and one walk, while striking out two.
Ralph Caputo gave up just one hit and no runs, while striking out one.
Ted Poleto gave up a walk and a hit, but got a game ending double play to get out of the jam and complete the shut out.

Just a note regarding Shawn Maney: Shawn made a diving attempt to catch a wind blown fly ball and ended up breaking his hand.
He was sorely missed in today's double header. We are looking forward to seeing Shawn back at the field on Wednesday afternoon!
