............aren't the best out of 5? It's much more difficult to win three games in a series than it is to win just two. If a team has two really good pitcher's........ series over pretty quickly but if that additional game needs to be won, a series can sway if pitching is neutralized. If seems there is just as much weight (2 wins) on the semi-final series as there is on the finals (2 wins). I think a five games series is much more thrilling and fun to follow.
We (managers) have chosen a format where every team has a playoff berth (at least in a play in game) and chance to win it all even if it is a slim chance.
Once you have a berth we play in a unique double elimination tournament that does a pretty good job of insuring that 3 solid teams advance and join the #1 seed in the semis.
By the time that is done it is mid september ..... and 3 game (in 2 days) semis and finals do a pretty good job of producing the better team.
Remember the 45's are a daytime / weekend league and without any bad weather the season goes until late September so any delays or a longer format would push that back even farther.
I think the bulk of the 45 players would agree that at least for the last few years the most deserving team has come out on top.
