Vets over Shasky's Sunday @ Satellite

Many anticipated a rainout on Sunday after the Marlins and Black Sox worked thru quite a wet game at Satellite Stadium - but, the skies held off, the field wasn't too bad (a little slippin' & slidin') and starting at 2pm, the Vets vs the Shasky's got a good game in.

Jon Atwell and Jim Tesoriero took the hill for the Vets and Shasky's with both going the distance for their squads in fine pitching performances with some pretty fair defense behind them. In the 1st for the Vets, Vince Koster went to first base on a BB, stole 2B and then thrown out at 3B on a steal attempt on a very close call. Tesoriero and Dennis Lane singled in Shasky's half, but Matt Kelly made a nice grab in CF to end their threat. Ken Zimmer singled in the Vets second, but Tesoriero closed down the Vets threat. Shasky's got Greg Briscoe on with a walk in their 3rd and on to 2nd on a balk, both due to a slippery mound, but Atwell ended the threat getting a line out and a ground out both to 2B. Yours truly could've ended the inning at 3B on the line drive caught then the fine throw by V Koster at 2B to me at 3B, but a little slippin' and slidin' on a loose bag caused a dropped throw missing out on a double play. Both teams were shut down in the 4th and 5th by the opposing pitchers with good defense as the field was drying out just a little. Bill Kervan singled for the Vets and Briscoe for Shasky's in the 6th, but neither team could capitalize on the threats. Then the Vets opened up their 7th with a double by Dave Mcdermott who stole 3rd and scored on an infield grounder by V Koster. Rick Koster, Kelly and Atwell all singled, stole 2nd and brought in 2 more runs to close out the Vets 7th. Atwell closed out the Shasky's 1-2-3 with the help of Kelly's great catch in CF to end it. Vets over Shasky's 3-0 to improve to 5-8 after a rough start and Shasky's move to 3-9.

ONCE AGAIN - THIS LEAGUE IS INDEBTED TO JOHN REEL WHO STAYED AFTER HIS MARLINS GAME TO PERFORM FIELD PREP WHICH WAS NECESSARY FOR OUR GAME AFTER THE SOAKING IT TOOK DURING THEIR GAME. JOIN ME IN THANKING JOHN FOR HIS EFFORTS WHENEVER YOU SEE HIM.

Great well matched game, it was a pleasure to play in win or lose, it was up for grabs until the last inning.
