The Damn Yankees punched their ticket to the semifinals with a victory over the Hawks on Tuesday in a five inning game. Bill Kervan retired the first 12 batters in order while his offense plated three first inning runs and tacked on eight more in the third to put the game away. Kervan allowed no hits and no walks and struck out three. The only ball to leave the infield was a sinking liner to right by Mike Hart that was bobbled and dropped. Mike Matheson led the Yankees at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance, including a pair of runs scored and two RBI. Joe McNally scored three runs from his leadoff position and Matt Kelly chipped in with a single, walk, two runs scored and an RBI. The 2010 champion Yankees will now do battle with the defending champion Nolan Propane Cardinals on Friday in what should be a great matchup. The Marlins and Americans square off Wednesday evening with the winner moving on to face the top-seeded Whiz Kids on Thursday. It's been a great season of parity in the 55's this season and the 2012 crown is up for grabs.
The game PPD on Wed. pushed back the 55 schedule. The Whiz do NOT play Thursday; they play Friday. Wed game that was PPD between Marlins and Americans will be played tonight (Thurs) with winner playing Friday vs. Whiz Kids at a site yet to be determined.
