Cubs top Rays 6-2.

On a steamy Friday night, at the Voorheesville Satellite field, the Cubs improved their league leading record to 8-1-1, with a 6-2 victory over the Rays.
Ron Massaroni was dominant on the mound for the Cubbies, giving up just 4 hits and 2 walks, while giving up just two runs.
The Cubs would take a 1-0 lead, in the 1st inning, on a lead off walk and a steal of second by Shawn Maney and a RBI single by Mike Girard.
The lead would grow to 3-0, in the 2nd inning. The Cubs loaded the bases with a lead off single by Randy Craft, a Rays error, and a walk to Jim McQuade. Ron Massaroni and Phil Gadomski then followed with RBI singles.
Rays' starter Paul Moore limited the damage by striking out the next Cubs' batter and inducing a double play.
Mike Girard led off the 4th inning, with a long triple and scored when the throw to third went out of play.
The Rays grouped 3 of their 4 hits, with two outs in the 4th inning. Mark Dabney singled and moved to third on a Fred McIntosh double. Mario Arduini delivered Mark Dabney with a RBI single. Then, with runners on first and third and two outs, Mario executed the "wounded duck" play and Fred McIntosh scored before the Cubs could tag Mario out in the ensuing run down.
The Cubs plated an important insurance run, in the 5th inning, when Ron Lochner and Dave Mitchell singled and Lochner scored on a Rays error.
Massaroni took that 5-2 lead and closed out the final 3 innings giving up just two walks and no hits, as his defense made all of the plays.
The Cubs would close out the scoring, in the 7th, on a HBP to Steve Lounello, a Girard single to right and a Lochner sacrafice fly to deep left center.
The Cubs win an important game and move their record to 8-1-1.
The Rays drop to 7-4 with the loss.

Solid game played all around by the Cubbies. Gotta say Satelite Field was shaky at best. The outfield was absolutely horrendous and thank God no one got hurt on that field. A bunch of 35 and overs on that field could have been a bad mixture. Cubs are as tough as always and you have to bring your "A" game to beat them!
