On an absolutely gorgeous afternoon to play baseball (aren't they all though), the Yankees got back on track with a 7-3 victory over the Blue Jays at New Scotland field...
On a day when the Yankess had all of their players for the first time this year, John Sheehan led the way as he was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and also a HBP to get on base all 3 times, including a stolen base and run scored...
Jorge Sepulveda was also 2 for 3 including a rocket into the gap for a double after his good buddy Mike Ruetter had also just hit a rocket into the gap for a double and 2 RBI's... So that was a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and the game went on from there basically being dominated by the Yankee pitching tandem of Darrin Ambrige who got the Win and Jorge Sepulveda getting the Save... Darrin pitched the first 5 and Jorge pitched 6 and 7, striking out 4 of the 6 batters he faced as the other 2 hit weak grounders...
Now a week off until we play a DH on the 8th and we'll look forward to getting back in the swing of things then as the 45 division heats up and gets into the dog days of July and August...
I know ~ but Donnie said it's a done deal, he just has to finalize things w/ Scott (45 commish)... It also still has the game listed on August 9th even though Donnie has told them a thousand times we are all going to be in Cooperstown for the wedding and that game has to be rescheduled also... Or not... So I dunno, maybe they just want us to forfeit? But I am mostly wondering what the playoff schedule is going to look like so I can make plans to get back from the honeymoon in time...
Heck, it's not JUST a wedding, it's a BASEBALL game at the Hallowed Grounds and uh yeah, you usually play baseball during baseball season, no? I have never played there and didn't even know it was a routine thing that Jimmy K and his Giants did every year, so it just happened to work out that he was nice enough to schedule us in a rematch of last years finals... That's another big plus as I know they'll come to play and I LOVE their competitive fight ~ not to mention the damn fine team they put out on the field...
Honestly, I am probably as excited about the game there on the 11th as I am the wedding on the 10th... Especially since my brother is going to get to play with us (he turns 45 in September and is on the roster, I'll be 46 on the 13th) and my mom will get to see her 2 oldest sons (have another little brother 26) play together for the first (and maybe last) time since we were boys/young men... And uh yeah, he can play too!
So it's really a wedding/baseball/birthday weekend all wrapped into one and the fact that my darlin was open to having the wedding around the baseball game was proof enough for me that she was my kinda gal! Err, or is the baseball game around the wedding?
Either way, I'm a lucky, lucky man!
And then since we don't have another game until the 26th, the last regular season game, I'll prolly be back in town for that as well ~ but definitely the playoffs as they obviously don't start until after that...
As for the Highlanders and the 35 playoffs, well, that's another story which I am not as sure about ~ but we'd have to be in the 2nd round or maybe quarterfinals to even affect it... So uh yeah, I think you can draw your own conclusions about that one...
