Yankees 5 Reds 0

I was going to keep quiet, but well ~ since that is not exactly my forte these days, plus given the fact that word is sure to be out soon enough anyways, I figured I'd go ahead and give the following recap...

As the Reds are a 45 powerhouse that is just loaded with talent, it was a good win for the Yankees in the young season. It was highlighted by a 1 hit performance by our new pitcher Jorge Sepulveda. He was absolutely spectacular under the beautiful New Scotland afternoon sunshine... The only hit the Reds could muster was a bloop single by Reds SS and lead off hitter Alex Marin that was just over SS and barely beyond my reach (probably because I'm older, fatter, and slower then once upon a time)... After that, it was lights out as Jorge made his CDMSBL debut in grand style...

Joe Burns also pitched well and kept the Yankees bats silent until the 3rd when the bottom of the order got it rolling. Todd Baldwin began it all with a walk, a single by Herb Friedman, a Red error, a fielders choice, another Yankee single (this one by Rick Carusso), and a timely double by Kevin Jackson led to 4 Yankee runs...

While Jorge continued to mow Reds down and inducing numerous ground balls, the only other scoring was in the 6th when I led off with a single and Kevin Jackson continued his hot start with another RBI single after a sac and WP got me to third...
John Kalinski and Mike Ruetter were also both 2 for 3 as well...

Jorge actually hit a home run as well ~ but the ump called it foul as it was a frozen rope that was hooking down the left field line... Which he then promptly grounded into a double play instead of having a 3-run homer to match his tremendous pitching effort (which would have been a no-hitter if I was a decade ~ or two ~ younger)...

Instead Jorge introduced himself to the CDMSBL with a 1 hitter and a really loud scare from the plate...

And boy am I glad he's on the Yankees!!!

The 45 Division will have to get through Jorge Sepulveda and the Yanks to win a title this year. This guy is a pro. About 6-4, slender with a baseball frame and LOADS of talent. I'm told he's 47, maybe 48.

He's a righty and his fastball cuts in on righties. Great movement. He runs like a deer and has a quick bat at the plate. I'm also told he has a World Series ring from when he was a member of the Dodgers organization. I'm also told the Dodgers give rings to every play in the organization if they win a title. From what I'm told, he played single A back in the day.

Hey J.J., do you know this guy?

Jorge's delivery is pro: Smooth and every delivery the same, regardless of the pitch. The ball has good pop when it hits the catcher's mitt.

So, if he 1-hit the Reds, I see a no-no or two in his future - as in 2012.
Great addition to CDMSBL; Yankee catcher Mike Reuter brought him to us. He and Jorge go back a long way.

Don Dunham is really going to enjoy managing this guy. He's the Jim Shook/JJ Piersall of the 45 Division.

Welcome Jorge; just don't hit anyone!!!

Who's that hot guy in the pic Mikey??? You know this isn't a dating site, right?

And yeah, it's only 2 games in ~ and Jimmy K's Giants are the defending champs, not us!
Plus there's ALWAYS the rock solid Marlins, and I am not counting the Reds out with all thier talent...
This is not to mention the fact that there are 11 teams in the league and as none of us are immune to injury, a few bad breaks, and if a few good breaks go the other way, well, one of the other teams could surprise any of us in the "big 4" come playoff time...

But I doubt it...
And I am indeed liking our chances...

George pitched a great game but it was only our second game of the season and we have a long way to go. Just for the record George is 48 years old.

I continue to be amazed by the arms in the 45 division - guys that are approaching 50, or who have passed it already!!

Really good baseball !!

JM, so right you are. I'd take our very best 45s anywhere and compete with any other MSBL chapter in the country. That's why we've won a couple of rings in Florida and made a few finals as well. not to mention the players who have joined other teams and won rings. To be on the same field with these guys is really a privilege.

No sorry, never heard of him, looks like he played a couple years A ball, from what I understood if they won the World Series people who worked in the organization got rings, trainers, staff, front office, and the big leaguers, but not the minor league players.

Congrats JJ on being inducted into the Burnt Hills Athletic Hall of Fame, awesome!
We are playing there later today (hopefully!) and I was just looking to see if they maybe had a playoff game that got cancelled yesterday and needed the field today or something and I saw your name ~ cool...
Excellent honor and well deserved ~ again, BIG time congrats for you JJ...
