The Cubs rode the dominant pitching of Phil Gadomski and Steve Lounello to a 6-1 victory over the Padres, on a beautiful Saturday morning @ New Scotland Town Park. Phil Gadomski went 6 innings, facing just 4 batters over the minimum. Mash gave up just 3 singles and no walks, while striking out 4. The Cubs supported him by playing very cleanly behind him, committing just one error. That one error would lead to the Padres only run on the day. Steve Lounello came on to pitch the 7th and sent down the 4-5-6 hitters in order, finishing the game off with a 3-pitch strike out. The Cubs plated runs on a RBI single by Dave Mitchell (1st), a RBI double by Jim McQuade (2nd), a RBI fielder's choice by Dave Mitchell (3rd), a RBI double by Steve Lounello (4th), a RBI double by Mike Girard (7th) and a RBI single by Dave Mitchell in the 7th inning. Steve Lounello ended up 3 for 3 with, 2 doubles, a single, a walk, a stolen base, 2 runs scored, and an RBI. Dave Mitchell was 2 for 4, with 2 singles, 1 stolen base, and 3 RBI's. Bisner, Corolla, and John Corrigan had the singles for the Padres. The Cubs, who moved to 4-0 on the young season with the win, have the Pirates next on Wednesday night at Bethlehem Town Park.
You got Steve so tired on Saturday that he was only 1-3 Sunday against you guys! He's on a tear. He hit the ball hard three times in the Giants 2-1 loss to the 45 Marlins. JimK
