Cyclones stage comeback for 1st win

Finally, some nice baseball weather! Not a cloud in the sky and temperatures in the upper 70's, as the Cyclones staged an improbable comeback---scoring 8 runs in the 5th inning to overtake the Shasky's, 12-11 in a game shortened to 6 innings because of impending darkness. And, somehow, we did it on only 4 hits! Three of them, however, came in the 5th as we battled back from a 9-4 deficit. Cos DiBari got the rally going with a bases-loaded single in his first at-bat of the season. Dave Webber brought in another with a sacrifice fly, and Frank Kerbain and Dana Hansen knocked in two each. We also benefited from 5 walks, an error, and a wild pitch in that inning.

Manny Maruffo pitched 1 2/3 innings to earn his first win of the season. Dave Webber picked up the save, getting the game's final out on a ground ball to Bob Weitz at second with the bases loaded and everybody running. Ed Rogers looked good in his Cyclones pitching debut, and Francisco Rosello gave us two good middle innings.

For the Shasky's, Steve Hughes had an awesome day, with 3 doubles and 4 runs scored.

All of us, by the way, are hoping for the best for Tim Burns, who had to be helped off the field after fouling a pitch off his ankle.

Best to Tony Grocki and the Shasky's in their first year as a 45+ team. They've always been a scrappy bunch of guys, and they will make some noise in this division.

Happy Mother's Day, everyone!

Good to see that CDMSBL veteran Dana Hansen still playing.
Keep it going, DH.
