On a picture perfect day to play baseball, the Yankees opened 2012 with a 4-1 win over a new look Veterans team. John Kalinski was the "player of the game" as he pitched a complete game, striking out seven and walking NONE... He also went 2 for 3 at the plate, including a double and 2 RBI's, to help his own cause and round out a nice day at the ballpark.
Rich Royka also went 2 for 3 and knocked in the other 2 Yankee runs, as well as playing his normal stellar d at first base... The Yankees defense looked solid all the way around and led to the victory, even though John would've had a shutout had I dived for Steve Van Gelders soft liner up the middle in the first inning that tipped of the end of my glove just outta my reach to plate the only the Vet run and give Steve the lone RBI of the day for the Vets. They also are noted to have played excellent defense and only made 1 error on the day as the game was finished in a timely 95 minutes...
Stayed after to watch the early season matchup of two 45 powerhouses, Reds~Giants, and look forward to reading Jimmy K's synopsis, but yeah, good game from 2 really good teams...
