The Golden Marlins rode a combined three-hit pitching performance by Jim Ansel, Phil Gadomski, and Chris Burnett to a 11-2 victory over the Vets on opening day at New Scotland yesterday. Jim Ansel started and pitched the first 3 innings, giving up just one unearned run, on one hit, no walks, and 2 strike outs. Phil Gadomski came on for the 4th, 5th, and 6th and also gave up just one unearned run, on one hit, no walks, and two strike outs. Chris Burnett pitched a final scoreless frame, giving up one hit, one walk, and sawing off one bat, that turned into a double play. The offense supported this great pitching by pounding out 14 hits. Tim Brown led the way with a 2-4, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored performance. Mike Girard, Ron Lochner, and Chris Burnett all had a double and a single and two RBI's. Joe Hervieux added a double and single and one RBI. Mike Clary was the other Marlin to have two hits. Jim Wing, Dave Hartman and Dave Demaria were the Vets who had singles.

And this game saw the return of Hall of Famer Skip Treece; after more than a year off . Seeing him roam CF and dash down the first base line made my day. I know its been a long road back and the team and the league welcome you. Jreel
There were so many surprises at this game....First Skippy, Dee and Alana showed up....it was so nice seeing all of them....then Annie (Mike Cleary's better half) showed up with little Schamus (not sure of the spelling:)) and hall of famer Tom Maneys other (better) half showed up....so it was quite a ballgame....skip running the bases, gets on first, steals second! It was just so nice seeing everyone!
