The Cubs got solid pitching from Ron Massaroni and John Martin and a double, triple, and 4 RBI from Andy Hoyle in winning their opener on Saturday morning at New Scotland 11-4. Ron Massaroni pitched the first 4 innings and gave up 4 unearned runs in the third (3 consecutive Cubs' errors) while giving up just 4 singles and no walks, while striking out 2. John Martin pitched three scoreless innings to close it out. Andy Hoyle delivered a two-run double in the first and a two-run triple in the third to spark the Cubs offense. Shawn Maney was 3 for 3, with 2 RBI's and 2 runs, in leading a 12-hit attack. Kevin Jackson and Pete Stevens each had two hits for the Highlanders.
