the fellow we'd counted on, a 45-year-old with a good arm, just got a new schedule and has to work sundays. we have two good backups, and we could do just fine this season with them. but if we could get someone who calls a good game, can throw a pea to second and can hit, we certainly wouldn't turn him down. if he's a distant relative of johnny bench or carlton fisk, so much the better.
