Anyway i am experiencing ear issues and they look to be permanent so i thought i should share my experience as a quick response to the problem makes a big difference in the success of the treatment.
Around thanksgiving i got a cold... then had trouble hearing out of my left ear as well as ringing in my ear ..... went to the doctor who told me i had a double ear infection and put me on antibiotics ... which did nothing so i was then put on a nasal spray to clear the remaining congestion.
That didn't help ... went to a new doctor and was told the previous nasal spray was useless and put on a new nasal spray ... then a couple of days later back on antibiotics... all of which did nothing.
Next was a referral to an ENT and audiologist ..... the audiologist did a number of tests and determined that i have nerve damage and can't hear high frequencies in my left ear ..... then i went and saw the ENT who told me i have Sudden Sensineural Hearing Loss .. or SSNHL.
Well it turns out that if you get on a steroidal treatment within a week or two there is a chance that it will get better.... if you go to multiple doctors who mis diagnose it and you don't get to the ENT for two months you are basically hosed.
From what i read this is not all that uncommon and happens far more often in people aged 50 or older. ...... so i figured i would post it here so everyone can keep this in the back of their mind in case they have similar issues...
Bottom line - get to the ENT right away if you experience clogged ears... especially a single clogged ear which is most commonly the way this occurs.
John, Funny that should mention that about your ears. I had the same problem two years ago and thay came up with the same conclusion. High Freq hearing loss. I was also told that It was not bad enough for a hearing aid. I just have to live with this ringing in my left ear unless it gets real bad. I guess when we all pass 40 or so,things start to go down hill, eyes, ears and ????. One thing I would like to add, anyone that is 45 and older should consider a stress test or at least a corroded artry scan. Too many guys suffer heart problems and don't even know it. Harold
thanks for this note--we are all not getting any younger--what about players who have no insurance? I just posted a question about possibly having a league doctor/trainer--I think there are doctors in our league--I'm sure of it actually, and also other doctors who would be willing to participate

Harold - did it ever get any better? ... i assume the hearing won't improve due to nerve damage but did the ringing subside at all? .. have you found ways to lessen it or get used to it? .. ever try any of the natural remedies you see on the net?
John, The ringing has never gone away. The Dr. told me if it gets real bad a hearing aid is the only fix. Like I mentioned , my hearing loss was just in the high freq range.According to him that is what causes the ringing sound. My hearing tests show I can hear everything in the normal ranges.I didn't have any infection, just old age setting in. Harold
so this constant, high pitched whine in my head is normal?? that suxs bad. Too much Alice Cooper,MC5,humble pie, iggy, sabbath, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Somebody turn it down. Yours in white noise, pete
Yup, What the heck did we know when we were kids blasting the tunes to high heaven. One other thing, if you use firearms or did as a kid without hearing protection, that also contributed to the ringing sound. I never wore hearing protection when I fired my guns as a kid. The louder the better. OOOPPPPSS I guess I screwed up .
Dave, Some sounds are lost with age,but the ones you speak of NEVER go away. They will be in your hearing ranger forever. When you signed up for that progrem your brain made those sounds permanent. See you Sat. Harold
I think John just admitted to steroid use. Time to institute a PED policy.

I wish Rob .... i was too late for them to be effective so they wouldn't prescribe them ......
Maybe i should have lied about when it happened so they would have given them to me .... wouldn't have helped my ears but maybe my throw to 1st would have improved
