I currently have 10 volunteers re: a meeting with Mayor Jennings of Albany.
Unfortunately, we have no one from the 18 or 25 divisions because I don't have any email addresses from the very few I know.
I am seeking 1 or 2 players from those divisions to help us prepare for that meeting.
We will gather at 7 p.m. Monday Dec. 19 in the Frozen Ropes meeting room.
From that session, we will discuss how many we want to actually speak with the mayor. That meeting is in the process of being scheduled and likely will be held in mid-January. I received an email today that the mayor is interested in speaking to us. It's just a matter of when.
If interested, reply to this posting. Thank you. Jim Konstantakis CDMSBL Board member 45 Giants 55 Whiz Kids
jim, old bean, what's the point of the meeting with the mayor?
i'm guessing fields.
if so, fyi: you may have seen the st. rose baseball complex on oneida ave. in north albany? it's very impressive: big and modern with lights. nearly as nice as the joe.
i drove by there today (wed., 12/14) and happened to see that the entrance to the complex has two signs: on the left, "the college of st. rose," on the right, "the city of albany." if that's been built in part with city (taxpayer) money, it should be rentable by the city's taxpayers (us). and not for the unconscionably sky-high prices that i've heard for the place (or for similar prices for use of the joe, which was also partially built with taxpayer money.)
i also saw that the city and/or american legion has been keeping the legion field across the street in good repair, too. (though someone left the bases in; but that was actually pleasant to see, those powder-white bags fixed there in brown dirt on a graying, chilly day, waiting for games.) how'd we ever lose that field? more importantly, can we get it back? again, for a reasonable fee?
