With Ralph's sudden passing, and the holidays upon us, there were few details available last week. I've spoken with Mickey Novak from the Dodgers, who were gracious enough to open up their gathering last week to several other of Ralph's friends/former teammates.
Since then, I have heard from a lot of guys asking if there would be a get-together for a larger group.
We've come up with next Friday, December 16th, 7pm at O'Toole's on Central Avenue. Realizing this is a hectic time of year, we picked it for the location being near Colonie Center and in Kohl's parking lot so you can shop before/after paying your respects. Knowing him, Ralph would probably crack "sorry it's such a crazy time of year, next time I'll try for a more convenient date...". Such was his self-deprecating sense of humor.
Feel free to bring a spouse, friends, or otherwise. Ralph would always welcome others.
The 35 Division Managers' fund will be making a donation, and welcome you to add to it in Ralph's name. We will be passing the hat that night, or you can make a direct donation. You can bring cash or check. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, N.Y. 12302, in memory of Ralph Marrero Jr.
Please let me know where I can send a check. That is a noble cause Ralph was involved in. One Michael Vick in the world is one too many.
I referee high school basketball every Friday night, so unfortunately I will be unable to attend the evening of Dec. 16. So I will mail a check in Ralph's memory.
Thanx Tommy In remembrance of Ralph Jim Konstantakis
I'm happy to report that our little gathering raised $267, which will be added to the $300 from the 35 Managers' Fund. The $567 will be sent to the Animal Protective Foundation in Ralph's memory.
Thanks to all who showed generosity in a tough economy. Another reason to be proud to be a part of this great league of exceptional people.
