Hats off to John Reel!

I have been witness to some of the members of this league taking pot shots at Mr. Reel over the years. Some have said that he makes some of his rulings based on what is best for his own team. BALDERDASH!
With the weather pushing back the 45+ playoffs to Mid October, John could have used that as an excuse to play the semi-finals last week under the lights at Cook Park so that the finals could have been played this past weekend. He could have rationalized that he wanted to avoid pushing the finals back to the 3rd weekend in October due to concerns about bad weather. It would have allowed Randy Craft to participate in the semi-finals before leaving for Florida, and benefitted the Marlins greatly.
But John did what he always does: He took the best interest of the greater numbers and pushed the semis back to the weekend, knowing full well that he was dooming his teams chances to advance by scheduling the semis when he knew his only qualified shortstop would be absent.
The Marlins went on without their starting left side of the infield and two of their top 4 hitters and played admirably for most of their two semi-final games. An error, in the sixth inning of game one, by yours truly (the back-up SS) was the turning point in that game. John Reel didn't flinch and I am not complaining. I am just trying to point out that which might not have been obvious to others who were not as close to the situation. John Reel again gets it right, no matter what it meant for his team!
The semi-finals went off on a picture perfect weekend without all of the problems that October night-time baseball poses (temps in the low 50's, dewy grass, poor lighting for older eyes, etc.). Now the two teams that won it on the field still have two weekends to get the finals in with weather conditions in the 60's and sunny skies.
Hats off to you Buddy! Again the CDMSBL benefits from having you at the helm!

In my opinion John gets a big pat on the back. Having to put up with bad weather, several teams and divisions to work around,John pulled it off again. I just wanted to say thanks for the hard work again this season. Harold Jenkins

I really don't think everyone knows (including myself) all the things that John does to make this league the league it is today. I think he does a great job and there shouldn't be any complaints from anyone, unless they want to "step up to the plate" thinking they can do a better job. Great Job John. I do appreciate everything that you do for this league:)

I too am a big John Reel fan. He always has the league's best interest in mind and i thank him for his efforts. My 20 years in this league and 15 years on the board i am a witness as to how much John really cares year in and year out.

Also agree with Mike Girard and feel his pain. The 2010 Yankees were in a similar situation.
We were in an elimination game against the Marlins and sent out our squad without our starting pitcher, and our 2,3, and 4 hole hitters. Nevertheless we suffered the same fate.
I guess that's baseball!

I made this comment on a seperate entry because I didn't want anyone to think that I was complaining or making excuses. My hats off to you and the Yankees on your victories this past weekend. The Marlins gave it our best and the Yankees were a better team. No excuses and no complaints!

John has been the catalyst for the growth of CDMSBL for close to 20 years and you may not agree with him all the time, but his work ethic to grow this organization into what it has become cannot be questioned. He and many others have put a lot of their personal time at the sacrifice of their families to get things done. We are far better for them.

We are very lucky to have John. He is responsible for quality baseball for hundreds for two decades. Because of John, the opportunities for baseball in the capital district keep expanding and succeeding. Justly, he is in the national Hall of Fame. I could not have deeper regard for the man and for his contributions to baseball locally.

no one will see this i am sure its so old but i want to say a few words about John Reel i am sure have already been said but some of you who actually complain about John need to know this.. I have been exiled to California for the last 16 years off and on with side trips to Watertown and Miami ... i know ru kidding me..? but for those of you who have no idea who i am i was in the league many many years ago with Tommy Maney and played on the White Sox the Cubs and the Marlins for several years and got to see first hand the work John did... he basically did everything...not to drag this out but being in California you would think there are leagues that are organized play in great places with great weather and have no issues... I am in riverside California and i cant find a league MSBL to play in!!!! Albany CDMSBL dwarfs 90% of the leagues out here and it grows every year...Little problems that go on dont stop any of you from stepping on the fields and playing the game we all love... I am indebted to John as every year i come home i get to play ball with the guys i cherish as ballplayers and friends in league play and then Labor Day tourney etc... I have been fortunate to have played in Florida as well and have been going to Phoenix for the 16th year this year and every time i get a chance i talk about the league in Albany not California....sometimes you just dont know what you have til you lose it they say... I cant imagine there being a better bunch of leaders we have now in CDMSBL as well as the guys who play every year...Its an awesome league guys...Ask Tommy or Mash they will tell you how much it sucks to go back and not have this league... My hat is off to John Reel and the leadership core that runs this league... Its a staple of MSBL period... John is deserving of every accolade... Thanks John

I have 20 years in the league, 15-year-old board, I really care about how much John witnesses a year and a year out.
