45 First Round...

The Yankees are the first team through the early games of the 45 Division Playoffs. After beating the Black Sox 19-6, a hard fought game against an ultra-classy Blue Thunder team ended 5-2 Yanks...

While manager Donnie Dunham pushed ALL the right buttons throughout the day, the hitting (and pitching) of Kevin Jackson led the way and John Kalinski closed out both games on the mound, including saving the second game for Kevin's BIG W!
Ace Darrin Ambridge pitched his usual fine game to get the W in the first game and Kevin again led the way at the plate. Mike Ruetter hit a big, LONG 3-run homer and was also key to the run production...

The highlight of the day though was the awesome sportsmanship the Thunder displayed in inviting the Yanks over for some tailgating action afterwards. The Vermont guys are especially cool and I am also confident the Thunder may well be the team playing their way through the loser brackets and we may just face them again in the Finals???

Petey G and Jon Martin combined to pitch a fine ballgame and they have a solid line-up all the way around, led by Tim Brown's hitting and fielding... But even better, those are some cool dudes and if it wasn;t for this damned wedding I have to attend, I would've still been hanging with them...

Steve and Joe were awesome as well and damn those guys were fun in the tourney as well and I am holding out hope for another tailgate party following the finals between us as they play their way through the harder end of the bracket...

Good Luck guys and thanks for an excellent afternoon...

And the Damn Yankees are looking good fellas!
Donnie, just keep pushing all the right buttons baby!

And oh yeah ~ one more thing ~ Thank you God for excellent first basemen!
Rich Royka made several EXCELLENT plays at first to help his fielders out which was key...
And Al Luciano made a BIG-TIME third to first double play on a hard hit grounder that turned the tide back in favor of the Yanks...

Woo-Hoo!

Now off the f-ing wedding... urrrghhh...

The only other games yesterday were the Thunder winning the first game over the Dodgers ~ I think it was like 7 or 8 to nothing...
And then the Black Sox played the Dodgers in an elimination game later and I don't know how it ended since I had to leave and go the wedding...
And honestly, I was chatting it up and enjoying the excellent food, fine company, and classiness of the Thunder crew so I don't even know who winning when I left as it had only just started and I wasn't paying much attention...

And if anyone has some scores from today's action, that would be appreciated...

Of course I expect the Giants and Reds to win, but you never know... Plus they'd then have to play each other at 1:30 and that's obviously a BIG game if it happens as expected... Got a family picnic to attend, but might be able to slip over and check on scores...

Just got word that the Reds and Giants are indeed squaring off in the BIG matchup @ 1:30...
Gonna be a good one w/the winner through to the semis!
The loser will likely end up playing the Thunder in a later bracket game next weekend for the final spot and is also sure to be a good game...
But I'm still going with the Thunder ~ especially after they fed me!

Just to give a quick update on today's games....Giants beat the Jays in the early game. (4-0) Reds beat the Vets, not sure what the score was. Giants beat the Reds 12-0 behind Steve Lounello's (6 inning*) no hitter!! Vets and Jays were playing when I left to see who survives to play next weekend. I'm sure Jimmy K will give Steve a full write up. Anywhoo...Giants, Yanks and Marlins are in to the Semi's. 4 teams will be left to fight for the last spot next weekend. (Thunder, Black Sox, Reds and Vets/Jays winner) Good luck everyone!!

It seems a little strange that the 3rd seed Reds have to play the 2nd seed Thunder, while the 5th seed Black Sox get to take on the 7th seed Blue Jays?

Scheduling correction needed?

Have to say I agree Dp. Where's the reward for finishing 2nd and 3rd? #2 should be playing #7 and #3 should be playing #5. It only makes sense. If playoff game eligibility can be changed, why can't this be righted?

I have to agree with Dave. If the playoff schedule was found to be wrong. It is certainly not to late to make it right. Although all the remaining teams are strong. After such a long season, getting it right, would be the thing to do. If not, lets just play ball.

Yeah, I agree with you guys as it only seems logical the 2 and 3 seeds would meet the lower seeds instead of each other, but what the hey ~ either way, like Steve says ~ Play Ball baby!

The other thing I was wondering was why there are no games Saturday because we couldn't get the field or what since what the heck happens if it rains on Sunday???
Does that mean the semis and finals are pushed back ANOTHER week???
I mean we could always start next year with the semis and finals from this year if it rains (or snows) every weekend for the next month, right???

Jus saying...
And since I like to "jus say" things, thought I'd throw that in there...

And why exactly are the required games # being reduced to 7? The managers all voted on that or how's that process work?

Or do ya'll Yankees not inform us southern boys of such information?

Seems ever since that damned war of northern aggression (otherwise known as the Civil War) you waged upon us you've been holding back pertinent info...

Ironic I play for the Yankees, huh???

Sounds like Mark is running for Comissioner for 2012!

What, not really?! Don't have the time. Don't want to do all that work and hear nothing but complaints?! Don't blame you.

Just shot-gunning complaints without any offer to do anything about them is not useful!
How many fields have you gotten for the CDMSBL to use?
Think about that next time you start typing your negative posts, and then don't bother!

There are usually a lot less complaints from the membership that just shows up and plays (enjoying the fruits of others labor).

Just sayin'!
