forfeit

We had a game scheduled at Voorheesville High field but the game was forfeit, the field was un-playable anyway, second and third base areas were muddy, the rest of the dirt portion of the infield is very bumpy and the grass portion of the infield is covered with goose droppings, there is a game scheduled for that field tonight but looks like alot of rain coming. Which team forfeited? GEES!

We are playing both teams this weekend. Have people driving an hour. I certainly hope there is better preparation for the upcoming games.

However, not complaining without offering assistance in the effort. Just ask me.

The Cougars forfeited and we had a guy who drove back from Cape Cod for the game...

We really need to develop stiffer penalties for forfeits!!!

I just send an email to the board bringing up the possibility of allowing 45+ guys to sub in the 55's ..... it would create a bigger pool of possible candidates to avoid forfeits and would probably expose the future players to what has become a division with some solid baseball teams and good baseball.

45 team members with an age restriction say maybe at least 50

The biggest problem is that the managers in question are just posting on the bulletin board looking for players and hoping that they will show up. They need to make the proactive effort to make phone calls for substitute players, and if that fails, they need to be calling the opposing manager at least 4-5 hours before the game starts to forfeit! This waiting until game time to forfeit crap needs to be penalized harshly...maybe these guys get a one year suspension from managing teams in the league.

Wouldn't it then be helpful to start a pool of players who are willing to be volunteers for substitutes on a regular basis? Perhaps one for each division?

Regarding a pool of available subs and the age restrictions in the 55+ division. I have offered to sub for Frank on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately, I am only 52 and not eligible for this division for this age group. As a board member, I proposed an age waiver for subs in the division. The idea was not approved.

I notice that two 55+ teams may need subs this Sunday evening. It may be difficult to find subs given that many players will have 45+ games on Sunday morning and afternoon. Coincidentally, my team plays Saturday so I would be ready to play Sunday evening. If the managers and commissioner are willing to let a 52 year-old play, I'm all ears!

I recently turned 40 and would be willing to sub in any division if the league would allow it. You wouldn't have to worry about someone pulling in a "ringer" with me either. I suck.

The approved list of subs per division, with contact numbers is a great idea Rob!
