Hats off to Brad Buchan, Jon Atwell, and the rest of the Vets for their first win of the season on Sunday at Voorheesville. Atwell, easily one of the best pitchers in the division, held us to just 3 hits and 1 run, and, in the process, had a sacrifice fly to drive in the go-ahead run in the 4th, and a double in what was either (depending on whose scorebook you look at) a 3-run or a 4-run 6th inning. Rick Koster had the other big hit of the game for the Vets, a single past third in the 5th inning that drove in 2 runs.
While we had only 3 hits on the day, two of them came from Joe Careccia, who joins us from the Giants this year. Our other hit, a booming RBI double by the other former Giant, Jack Riley. Jim Bonaparte started for the Cyclones and gave up just 3 runs and 4 hits over 5 innings before the Vets put it away.
Cyclones have a lot of new faces this year, and I can't wait to see what everyone can do. As for the Vets, Brad has once again put together a team that hits the ball hard and plays very tough.
