I have always liked playing at the New Scotland field. Its a hitters field. I like it even more now that significant improvements have been made. An excellent new backstock. Much needed new drainage along the left field fence line. Expanded foul territory in short left. We were fortunate to get the game in last night considering that there was a forecast that heavily favored rain during game time. That didnt happen, but it was muggy muggy. The biggest surprise of the evening was that no umpire appeared even after we called the assigner to find out what was going on. Fortunately, the legendary Don Wixon stepped forward, said Ill do it fellas, and put on his catchers gear and called the game from behind the plate. Thats 100 percent Don Wixon. We started about 20 minutes late and were dealing with darkness by the end, but we got it in. The game was fairly close after 4 innings with the visiting arachnids holding a 5-1 lead. however, the spiders erupted for five more runs in the top of the 5th to pretty much put the game out of reach 10-1.Leading hitters for the Cardinals were SURIN two hits, and HANSEN, also two hits. for the Arachnids, Lee Madsen went 4-5, Bob Bolt 3-4 including an inside the park home run, STEFAN KOUTSAKIS 3-4, big Tom King 2-2 including a sac bunt, walk, and a double, TJ Scorsone 2-4 and Darrell Duncan 2-5. Cardinals threw 3 pitchers, Bill Chichester started and went 4, , Hansen 2 innings, and Jeff Martin finished. Wayne Nicholson started for the visitors and went three, Bobby Bolt pitched the fourth, and TJ Scorsone pitched the final three innings. Just 1 error in the game. Final score,Arachnids win, 12-1.
