On a hot and humid Friday night at the Schenectady Babe Ruth field, the Cubs and Giants played a quick, reasonably well played game. There were errors, but mostly made by players playing out of position, or had something to do with a tough sun field in right.
Scott Ross got the start for the Cubs, and pitched really well against a tough Giants order. He ended up surrendering 6 runs on 12 hits, in 5 innings. Most of that damage was done in the 2nd and 5th innings, as the Giants recorded 10 of their 12 hits in those two innings.
Darrell Duncan pitched 6 strong shutout innings, as he scattered 6 hits, in his 6 innings of work, hitting one batter, and walking none, while striking out 3. Ron Massaroni came on for the 7th and gave up just 1 run, in closing out the Giants 11th win against just 3 losses.
Mike Girard led the way for the Cubs, with a double and single, and was hit by pitches twice. Dave Mitchell was the only other Cubs hitter to collect two hits on the night.
Steve Lounello led the way for the Giants with 3 singles, while Bob Bolt and Ron Massaroni had two hits each.
The next time these two teams meet, there will be a lot more on the line.
