Due to the temperatures for tomorrow, I am implementing some rule allowances.
1. CATCHER'S SPEEDUP RULE. - a third courtesy runner is allowed for the catcher. Can be used at any time during the game or not. Can be used regardless of the outs in the inning.
2. TIME LIMIT - A hard 2:15 rule will be effect. No new inning to start after 2 hours.
3. At the umpire's discretion, he may call balls and strikes from behind the mound. He may wear shorts.
I recommend each team bring a cooler with ice for all to use. These rules are for this weekend only.
I understand the desire to play, but the safety of the players, umpires and fans is the concern here.
It was an absolute disgrace for the game. It was a beautiful 85 degrees for our game and the umpires were 10 feet apart behind the mound. They were standing in the sun either though it was all shade behind the plate. I can see doing this for the early games but to not have the ability to make a change, on their own, for the later games was just stupid and ignorant!
Hey Chris, our ump during the early game was behind the plate. Was there some reason your umps thought they had to call from behind the pitcher, or was that their choice? I was just curious because of where you said "but to not have the ability to make a change, on their own".
I thought our guys for the Shaskys/Cougars game did a good job.
