Two early season unbeaten's met at New Scotland Sunday morning, and the Cubs came away with a hard-fought 6-2 victory.
Chris Dunn was the star of this game as he threw 5 shut-out innings to grab the victory on the mound, and also helped his own cause with a long, two-run homer over the right field fence. Ron Lochner and Dave Mitchell both turned in defensive gems at the corner positions, however, the play of the game was made by reliever Phil "Mash" Gadomski.
The Royal/Brewers had loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, sending the tying run to the plate. The hitter smashed a line-drive up the middle, destined for center field. Unfortunately for him, instead, it found the rather prodigious mid-section of Mr. Gadomski, and dropped to the ground, where Mash then threw home for the 1st out, and catcher Dan Hernandez then threw to third for the improbable double play. After the next hitter was retired, the ball game was over and the Cubs began their cooler session, working on making sure their "guts" will be available to help win a game!!
