45+ Cyclones v. Shaskys

The Shaskys and Cyclones managed to get the game in completely before the rains came on Sunday as the Cyclones win 8-4. Dennis Lane once again had the field in great shape at Watervliet High School.

Cyclones starter Bill Ashline worked around two 1st inning walks by netting two strikeouts; Ashline also picked up two strikeouts in the 2nd inning and the Cyclones offense drew first blood in the bottom half of the 2nd when four straight Cyclones would reach base with one out on singles by Rich Robertson and Don Shultis a walk to Dave Hartman and a two RBI single by Gibby Travis and the Cyclones led 2-0.

Ashline worked a 1-2-3 top of the 3rd and the Cyclones added on in the bottom half. Sherwin So led off the 3rd with a hit and stolen base, Bill Ashline followed with a hit leaving So at 3rd and Ashline stole 2nd. An error would lead to a run and John Coulombe would follow with a single driving home Ashline all with no outs. Two out walks to Robertson and Shultis plated the Cyclones third run in the inning and the Cyclones left the bases loaded but had a 5-0 lead after three innings.

Ashline started to tire but lasted two more innings allowing three walks, three hits and hit a batter giving up two runs in his five innings of work.

Meanwhile, the Cyclones scored two in the fourth on a bases loaded double by Ashline and one in the 5th on an RBI single by Robertson.

Dave Hartman closed out the game for the Cyclones but did allow a two-run homerun off the bat of Jim Tesoriero for a final score of 8-4.

Cyclones numbers include:

Bill Ashline: 3-for-3; R, 2B, 2 RBI, SB
Rich Robertson: 2-for-2; R, BB, RBI, SB
Gibby Travis: 2-for-2; R, BB, 2 RBI
John Coulombe: 1-for-1; 2 BB, RBI

Bill Ashlines pitching line: 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 5 BB, 2 HBP, 6 K (W); and Dave Hartman collected 3 strikeouts in his two innings of work.

The Cyclones take on the new look Cubs who actually have a lot of familiar faces on the roster (many of whom are in the CDMSBL Hall of Fame) next Sunday (6/9) at Watervliet High School at 3:15 pm (at least, Im hoping its at 3:15 pm and not 3:15 am as posted on the website... ) and the Shaskys get a tall task as they get a doubleheader against the defending champion Bombers and follow it up with a game against the Cubs.

Good times had at Arsenal City Tavern post-game. If you play at Watervliet you should definitely head over after your game. The owner (Dan) will treat you right!

Good luck to the Shaskys the rest of the way and may you guys win the remainder of your games (except your July 28th game against the Cyclones biggrin )!
