Giants take round 1.

The Giants and Cubs got together last night at New Scotland (the site of last years exciting final game).

The Giants used a 4-run 4th inning, and solid pitching and defense to take down the Cubs 8-3.
The Giants got 5 of their 9 total hits, and 2 walks in that inning, and departed the inning with a 6-1 lead.

The Cubs also played their worst defensive game in a long time, contributing 4 errors in the first 3 innings.
Meanwhile, the Cubs managed just 7 hits all night against the pitching of Bob Bolt, Darrell Duncan, and Ron Massaroni.
There were a few well struck balls right at Giant defenders (3 of which were turned into DP's), but the story on this night was
the Giants were better at hitting with runners in scoring position, on the offensive side, and on the defensive side of the ledger,
the Giants were better playing defense and pitching. That wins most games.

Returning after a long absence, Shane Quackenbush led the Giant's offense, with a double single, and 2 RBI's.
Rookie, Andy Hoyle led the way for the Cubbies, with a double, single, and 2 RBI's.

These two teams will meet again, and another close enjoyable, and competitive game will result.

I can't wait!

Great recap, Mikey. Yes, pitching and defense win games. Without those miscues, we have yet another cardiac-kids game. As it was, we never felt comfortable till the final out.
