Sad news ...

Fred Pidgeon's father passed away on Wednesday March 27.

He loved attending our games and watching Fred hit. He sat in our dugout a few short years back and watched Fred hit two grand slams at Towasentha Park.

Look for details in the Times Union obituaries.

Fred - to you and your family, my deepest condolences.

It was a pleasure to meet your father and to chat with him, as I often did, as he sat in his folding chair, cheering on
you and your Giants' teammates.

Your father, who knew baseball well, had a lively interest in the Giants' doings; he kept tabs on everyone on the squad,
rooting for fellows when they did well, and rooting more when they didn't.

I happen to have a photo of him watching one of your games; it's below. He's sitting in front of you as you keep score.
He looks relaxed, comfortable, probably thinking his generation's work is done; he can relax; you kids are on your own now.

Thank you for bringing him. He was an upper for the fans around him, too. He'll be missed.

-Mike
