The Whiz Kids have a 9-4 lead after 6 innings. The commissioner has decided that we are to complete the game on Friday, at New Scotland, starting at 5:30. The losing team will stay on to play the next elimination game.
The important thing is that Mike Kane is going to be ok after a comebacker glanced off his glove and left him bloodied. After a few innings getting his bearings, he returned to the mound, induced another comebacker, but this time turned it into a 1-2-3 double play. What a gutsy player!
Bottom on the 2nd, Mike took a comebacker to his moneymaker, right on the gob, and left the field with one out and a 6-1 lead. I filled in and got us into the bottom of the 6th, score 9-3, loaded the bases with one out, Mike said he was ready from the sidelines, so he stepped in and efficiently got Ray Demers on a DP, end of 6th, and the last of the light.
On Friday the WK are being called on to go to New Scotland at 5:30 to finish out the game. What could go wrong?
Mike got lucky. The ball was not smoked, kind of a knuckler effect (which is why he missed it), and it missed his eye socket, his nose, his teeth. Could have been much, much worse. He batted the next inning, didn't play the field until the 6th, and basically looked like half-a-chipmunk.
