Jim Preller went 4-4 and scattered 6 hits over 7 innings as the Whiz Kids defeated the Americans 9-3 Thursday night. The Americans scored 2 in the top of the first when Dave DeMaria hit a 2-out single, and Greg Smith walked. Nick Kanellis drove in DeMaria with a double, and Smith scored on an error. The Whiz answered with 4 in their half of the frame. Preller led off with a single, and Greg Mangione (2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI), was hit by a pitch. Anthony Torre knocked in both of them with a double. Reggie Flansburg (2-4, 1 RBI) reached on an error, and Blaise Agnew doubled both runners home. The Americans cut the deficit in half when DeMaria singled in the third inning, and Kanellis hit a sac fly. The Whiz add two more in the fourth on RBI singles from Mangione and Flansburg. They cap the scoring with two in the fifth, Preller and Mangione with RBI hits.
Next up for the Whiz Kids are the Yankees at Central Park A diamond on Monday. The teams have played each other twice this year, with the Whiz winning the first game 9-7, and the Yankees taking the second 5-3. Should be another good one!
