Third Time's a Charm!

The Whiz Kids and Dodgers were scheduled to play Tuesday night at New Scotland. Two previous attempts to play this game were postponed, and after a 5 o'clock downpour, it appeared that it would be rained out again. Instead, players from both teams worked on the field to get the game in, and what a game it was. One spectator likened it to a playoff game.

Mike Kane of the Whiz Kids and Mark Denicola of the Dodgers were locked in a pitchers' duel. The Dodgers struck first in the top of the fourth on a HBP, an error, and an RBI single by Don Ball. The Whiz tied it in their half of the frame on a single by Kane, a walk, and an RBI single by Jim Preller. They would take a 2-1 lead in the fifth, as Jesse Braverman reached on a fielder's choice, a walk, and an RBI single by Kane. Dodgers retook the lead in the top of the sixth on a double by Denicola, an RBI double by Dave Reed, and an RBI single by Steve Schaefer. The Whiz came right back on one out singles by Reggie Flansburg and Preller, followed by RBI singles from Dennis Buckley and Anthony Torre. Kane then retired the Dodgers in order to close out the win.

Good luck to the Dodgers the rest of the way.
