Entering the 7th tied 3-3, the Yankees were able to plate 2 more runs to make it 5-3. The Twins had the tying run at the plate with one out in the bottom of the 7th . Ben Phillips hit a hard grounder up the middle that appeared to be bound for center, but the Yankees 2nd baseman made a great snag going to his right forcing a close, game ending, double play. Both pitchers, Weber for the Yankees and Wayne Nicholsen for the Twins pitched well with Nicholson allowing only 3 hits through 6. Lee Madsen made a tremendous catch of Steve Van Gelder's long high shot near the fence and foul pole in left to stymie a big push by the Yanks mid-game. Stefan Koutsakis again wore a gold glove at short for the Twins. It was the first loss for the Twins since the 2nd game of the season with 2 of their 3 losses coming by 1 (Cubs) and 2 runs (Yanks).
