On another beautiful night at the A-diamond in Schenectady, the Cubs overpowered the Peppers 19-4, in 5 innings.
The Cubs used 23 hits (9 of which were doubles) to put 19 runs on the board against 4 Peppers pitchers. All of the Cubs 12 batters had at least one hit, and all but 2 scored at least one run. Hot-hitting rookies, Marc Lochner and PJ Martone led the way with 3 hits each. Paul Miles, Ron Lochner, Mike Girard, Ralph Caputo, Jim McQuade, Bob Coffey, and Kevin Jackson all had two hits each. Girard, Caputo, McQuade, and Martone had 2 doubles each. Dave Mitchell and Marc Lochner had 3 RBI's each.
Meanwhile 3 Cubs pitchers, scattered 4 singles over the 5 innings, giving up 4 unearned runs. Ralph Caputo pitched the first 2 innings, giving up 3 unearned runs on 3 singles, while the Cubs defense was committing 5 errors behind him. Scott Ross pitched innings 3 and 4, allowing 0 runs on just one single, walking none and striking out 4 (to get the win). Jim McQuade mopped up in the 5th, giving up an unearned run on no hits and 1 walk.
Vinnie Koster, Herb Carter, Mike Hart and Tom Japour had the 4 hits that the Peppers were able to manage.
