Whiz Kids win on walk-off

Jim Preller slapped a 1-out single past a drawn-in Marlins infield, scoring Mike Kane, and lifting the Whiz Kids to a 5-4 victory over the Marlins. Brian Musella was awarded 1st base on catcher's interference with one out in the bottom of the 7th, and stole second. Kane fouled off a pitch on an 0-2 count before drilling a triple to the centerfield fence to drive in the tying run. Preller sent the 1st pitch he saw down the 1st base line for the walk-off. Whiz took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd on RBIs from Kane and Reggie Flansburg. Marlins went ahead 3-2 in the 5th when Scott Ross, Wayne Newcomb, and Mike Girard all came around to score. They made it 4-2 in the 6th on a double by Kevin Jackson, and an RBI single by Ross. That set the scene for the Whiz comeback. The game was everything you would expect from a Game 3 finale. Plenty of good pitching, defense, and timely hitting from both teams. Congratulations to the Marlins on a great series. The Whiz advance to take on the Giants in the finals, beginning Monday at New Scotland.

Congratulations to the Whiz on a hard earned victory. Sounds like a great game. Marlins proved to be most worthy adversaries.

Marlins were tremendous. Big respect to the men in teal. A very tough loss for that team, which they handled with grace. Game easily could have gone the other way.

It was such a good game by two great, competitive teams.

Jimmy P. pitched a superb game for the Whiz as did Mike Girard for the Marlins.

A really fun game to watch.

Congrats to the Whiz Kids on a great game.
Especially Mike Kane and Jim Preller.
Preller pitched superbly, keeping the Fish batters of balance all night with great location and changing speeds.
Mike Kane came up with the hit of the series in the bottom of the 7th, on a pitch that was not in the middle of the plate.
He went down ad got a pitch that was at the knees and on the outside corner, and drove it over Scott Ross's head in center field,
and that is not easy to do.
Good luck in the next round!
You will need it.

The Whiz showed us why they were the regular season champs this year. there weren't to be denied after losing only a couple games all year. they went out , got passed and then came back. If it was a race that was a nice finishing kick . I am proud of my guys coming from the 5th seed we and to fight for to the brink of the finals. The Whiz won't need luck if they fire like they did in game two and the beginning and end of Game three. jreel plats 2017. see you next year.
