The Twins and Marlins got together for their final regular season game at New Scotland last night. The Marlins jumped out to a big lead and held on in the final inning, to beat the Twins 8-5. The Marlins were staked to their lead in large part to the shut out pitching of Ralph Caputo and Kevin Jackson over the first 5 innings. The Twins cam storming back in the 6th and 7th innings to get within 3 runs and had the tying run come to the plate with two outs in the 7th, forcing Mike Girard to come on to record the final out, on a tapper back to the mound, and secure the victory.
With the victory, the Marlins secured a 4th place finish in the regular season, and a 8-8 record. The Twins fell to 5-11, but held onto 6th place by way of the tie breaker with the Peppers, having beat them 2 of 3 times, during the year.
The playoff pairings are set with the # 1 ranked Whiz Kids playing the 8th seeded Americans. The number 2 Giants playing the 7th seeded RED HOT Chilli Peppers The number 3 Yankees will face off against the 6th seeded Twins. The number 4 Platinum Marlins will play host to the 5th seeded Cardinals.
With the first round games being single elimination, it will be very interesting to see if any of the lower seeds can knock any of the favored top 4. Can't wait until Monday! Said me for the first time ever.
It was a long week of playing 4 games in 6 days. I know two others teams endured that, and another had 3 games in 5 days. thx for getting nearly all the games in, rain makes us angry men. All GM's worked to accomplish this and the load fell disproportionally on the nearly 1/3 rain outed schedule. A special thanks to Dennis Lane, Scott Bonnano, and the Jamie Duncan for their field prep efforts. Also to Sean Corrigan and Mark Fitch and his umps for bearing with the numerous changes, updates and reschedules.
Good luck to all in the playoffs. carefully read the rule on CR's , games that go at least 5 will be suspended, no ties, hustle on and off to avoid having the game suspended by lack of light. All games must come to their natural conclusion. A game not making 5 complete innings will be replayed from the beginning.
Thank you John for your efforts in getting all these rain outs rescheduled, and also to all the GM's. Baseball games are great, rescheduling games are a grind.
