Peppers win in the gloaming

So, we got off to a slow start this season. But we're rolling now. (Or at least thumping along on three good wheels and a workable spare.)

In what began and ended as tense contest, the Peppers won their second game in the past three (ignore that 15-1 whupping by the Whiz
in between), with a 12-8 win over the Americans on a hot and humid but rain-free Wednesday night at Satellite.

The Americans started out ahead 3-2 after two, the Peppers put up a 7-spot in the third, and led 10-3 after five. The Americans weren't about
be wrung out in that humidity and they posted five runs over the last two innings, most of that in the gloaming (in fact, it was darker than that;
we were all wearing miner's caps with the lights on for the last inning. But we got the game in!)

Hats off to the starting pitchers, Jim Kisselburgh for the Americans, who went all seven innings, and to the Peppers' Dan Durbak, who pitched
five innings, took a break for the sixth, and came back to finish it in the seventh. Dan had the unique distinction of winning the game and saving it.

Hitting was sharp on both sides: Dave DeMaria, Matt Leinung, and Ken Zimmer were a combined 7-for-10 for the red, white and blue boys; and,
for the Peppers, Vince Koster and Brad Maione had perfect 3-for-3 nights, while Herb Carter went 3-for-4.

P.S. I studied it: Home plate at Satellite does not in fact line up with either the rubber or second base. I'm guessing the rubber is about six inches
to the right of the plate. So, if you're pitching there soon, practice first throwing behind yourself.

Oh, I know about the rubber mis-alignment!
It is more than six inches!
If you are standing in the middle of the rubber, you are directly lined up with a batter in the right-handed batters box.
Just ask poor Brian Musella, who was the recipient of one of my straight pitches from there, last night.
Something to work on fixing, sooner rather than later.

Mike;
I guess the rubber must be mis-alligned at Swift Road also since you nailed me in the ribs about 8 times over the years there. Come to think of it, the rubber must be off a little at Elm Ave, SUNY, Legion, The Knick, B-Diamond and a few other places. We better start fixing these rubbers !
