The Cyclones played a double header at the Chatham Little League Complex on Sunday making up two rain outs. The Cyclones took advantage of a short-staffed Chatham Brewers team in game one and then a short-staffed Niskayuna Warriors team in game two sweeping the double-header and leaving the ranks of the winless.
Game one was a 12-7 affair in which the Brewers scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and five runs in the third inning. Yes, the Cyclones committed a couple of errors; but the Brewers are an excellent team and capitalized on those errors leading to the five run inning and the score was 7-0 heading to the fifth. But the Brewers didn't have their full squad there and the heat might have caught up with their pitching staff as the Cyclones exploded for 12 runs in the fifth taking full advantage of three errors in the inning on top of seven hits, two walks and a HBP. Bill Farrell would come in and close out the game for the three inning save and a 12-7 final.
Game two pitted the Cyclones against the Warriors and the Warriors came out swinging against Sherwin So and his knuckleball, compiling four hits in the first inning and a 3-0 lead. So would settle in and allow a single run in the 3rd inning en route to a complete game win. The Cyclones scored individual runs in the first and second innings before netting four runs in the bottom of the third for the 6-4 lead. Adding one more run in the fourth inning, the Cyclones would buckle up the defense and coast home on fumes for the 7-4 victory.
