Give The Giants Credit

The Giants beat the 55 Twins last night 11-0 (2 earned) at New Scotland field. Although the Twins were missing 4 key players and are a little banged up at the moment, this post is not an excuse piece. We've played the Giants twice in three days this week and for the life of me, I am very surprised they have 3 losses in the first half of the season. They have deep and excellent pitching, hitting and fielding. And, they are aggressive on the bases, even with a big lead which indicates to me they are still hungry.

Well, one not-so-astute player was out of touch when he stole 3rd with a 10-0 lead. He admitted it was not a smart thing to do. Even at our age, I told one of your players I would have plunked the next batter, which happened to be me. I wouldn't have had an issue with that. You have done a great job rebuilding that team. Great job.

It sounds like it was a dumb move that the runner would like to take back. I say, dumb things happen. Just wait an inning. No biggie. Let that go.

The significant issue is the frustration in the league because the Giants are loaded with outstanding players with impressive baseball resumes. The bottom of that lineup could be the top of any other lineup in the league. It is tough to give the Giants a decent game, and it can be aggravating. What percentage of their games do not even go seven innings? How many championships in a row?

I take issue with the suggestion that we need to retaliate on the field if the Giants crush. They deserve to enjoy their baseball and to play hard. Nobody should ever be thrown at, especially in CDMSBL. The Giants are a classy group, all good men, some of the finest gentlemen in the league. We are privileged to have them in our league, a pleasure to take the field with. I hope they all stay in the league for a long time. The significant issue here is not trying to tie the Giants hands behind their backs during games. It is whether this league is fostering parity and whether the games are fun, safe, and "fair".

If anybody gets hit is the head, it should be at a board meeting. Just put it on the next meeting agenda.
