Somewhat recently, John Reel sent an email to say a student from Voorheesville High School (Lukas Fisher) was collecting money to have a gazebo placed at the Satellite Field.
The Giants handed over some money last night, but Lukas was apprehensive about coming over to ask for money or donations. I went to him as he and several others were working on it. I told him I'd email all the 55 GMs so they'd be aware of his approaching the teams at the games.
I know this field is used primarily by the 55s, but since the 45s use it on Sundays, I'd collect for him if you could spare just a couple of bucks.
He's a great kid and is raising the funds as part of an Eagle Scout project for the community. He and several others were at the field tonight (Thurs.) putting clear coats on it. It's a beautiful gazebo and can be used for everyone who is there if rain breaks out or just to get out of the sun.
The gazebo costs $7000; he has raised about $4500 so far, so he and his sponsors are in the red as of now.
If everyone can offer a couple of bucks, it would go a long way toward defraying those costs, plus we'd make great inroads in that community.
So please ask your players in advance to bring a couple of extra bucks in case Lukas shows up to a 55 game and see me on Sundays to collect for the 45s.
