November 8, 2016 was a good day to be red. Red states trumped blue ones, and in Florida the NJ Reds pounded 20 hits en route to a 17-6 thumping of the Albany Capitals (and the Colorado Blues also lost to the Puerto Rico Royals).
The silver lining was that the Capitals hung 6 runs on the Reds, who had only given up 3 runs in their first 2 games combined. Capitals also amassed 10 hits against tough pitching, with Don Ball, Tim Burns, and Mike Surin collecting 2 hits each.
Chris Abrams, Jim Tesoriero, and Don Ball threw well, but the Reds lineup was stout top-to-bottom. Two strikes didn't phase them; they hit the ball hard almost always. As one of our hurlers remarked, "you had to battle every pitch."
So the next battle brings the DC Mustang A's today (Wednesday) at 1:30pm at the Toronto Blue Jays practice field complex. Like us, the DC team stands at 1-2. It also features CDMSBLers Joe Careccia and Tony Parella. The winner punches their playoff ticket. The loser will likely need some help.
