Braves Sweep Cubs

In a real shocker today at New Scotland the Braves swept the Cubs 5-4 and 16-11. It's a shocker because the Cubs usually mercy rule the Braves and no "second division" team won a game this year against those 3 top teams. We came in missing 5 players so we had to play with one player with a torn calf muscle so we wouldn't forfeit. Needless to say we did not have high expectations. But that's why we play the games. I'm really proud of this team for a total team effort today. Mark Denicola pitched a complete game and then went the first three innings of game two before tiring. Ray Coletta came on in relief and finished up game two. Ray also played shortstop like a pro and surely saved quite a few runs with his stellar defense. All of the Braves played great defense except for one big inning in the second game, and everyone contributed offensively.
The Cubs are an awesome group of guys. We all know they'll be back next year at the top of the standings. This is the first time the Braves have advanced to the semis so we are looking forward to playing next week, whoever our opponent may be.

Congrats to you, Steve, and all the Braves.

You surely have opened some eyes. But then again, you have a solid lineup and I know our team NEVER takes the field with less than the utmost respect for you or any opponent. I doubt the Cubs did that as they are group of class guys led by their GM Jim McQuade.

I still haven't forgotten that you guys beat us during the regular season last year, so nothing you do would ever shock me.

Good luck in the next round.

Tip of my cap to the Braves!
They came and played the game the way that the Cubs usually do: good defense, pitching, and timely hitting.
They were the better team on this day, and the it just wasn't there for the Cubbies.
Congrats and good luck the rest of the way.
Time to prepare this old body to play 9 games in 6 days, in Phoenix.
Just 25 days left to prepare! Time to get to work.
