... Shortly after learning of the death of Darrell's father, the 55 Giants took the field - but should have stayed home.
Whiz Kids scored 5 in the first, 5 in the second and the rout was on. The Giants were mercy-ruled for the second time in two years, this time 17-2. Last year, Marlins beat the Giants 18-4.
Mike Kane pitched a complete-game win, giving up a two-run homer to Pete Geannelis in the first inning, then shut the door. Whiz pounded out what seemed like 104 hits off JimK and played solid defense.
This team has as good a chance as any to win the title this year. Solid top to bottom.
The Giants remain the standard bearers of the 55+ Division. They will never make any excuses, but I will point out that Jim K. is working his way back from an injury, they were missing a few key players, and, of course, the loss of Darrell's father was on their minds. That jolt of reality should remind us of how fortunate we are to play baseball, and that we should remember that it is a game, and that we should enjoy every time we step on the field.
