In game one: Chris Dunn worked the first 4 innings and picked up the win, giving up 4 runs (just 2 were earned) on 3 hits, 2 walks, and 1 HBP, while striking out 2. Chris had lots of support from the Cubs offense, as the Cubbies pounded out 17 hits in scoring 15 runs. Andy Hoyle led the way with 3 hits and 2 runs in 4 trips to the plate. Shawn Maney, Chris Dunn, Ron Massaroni, Mike Clary, and Rich Garbarino all added 2 hits each. Leading 12-4, after 4 innings, the Cubs gave the ball to Rich Garbarino in the 5th, Tom Shepardson in the 6th, and Mike Ferraro in the 7th for mop up duty. The Brewers managed to rally for 7 runs in those 3 innings, but fell short in their rally, losing by a final of 15-11. Eric Sundwall hit a 2-run home run and Sabatini (?? #99) added a 2-run shot in defeat.
In game two: Mike Girard went 7 innings on the bump, in the sweltering heat, to earn a complete game victory for the Cubbies. Girard gave up just 3 runs, as he "scattered" 13 hits and 4 walks, while striking out 4. The Royals managed to get at least 2 runners on in every inning, but could only score 2 runs in the 1st and 1 run in the 3rd. Meanwhile, the Cubs made the most of their 13 hits, scoring 9 runs, in the 9-3 victory. Girard led the way with 2 doubles and a single in his 4 trips to the plate. Mike Ferraro, Dave Mitchell, Chris Dunn, Ron Massaroni, and Mike Clary added two hits each in the victory. Eddie Class and Mark Fiacco had 3 hits each in defeat, for the Royals.
The double header sweep, brings the Cub's record to 6-1 on the season, as the 45+ division reaches the 4th of July break.
