Three past Cubbies came back to the fold for the 2016 season, and it was great to have them back! Mike Ferraro, TJ Scorsone, and Rich Garbarino dusted off their Cubs uniforms and and all 3 contributed in a 13-2 win over the Blue Jays on Opening Day. TJ went 2 for 3, scoring 3 times, and filled a big hole at shortstop. Mike Ferraro had a single and a walk, in 3 trips to the plate, while handling 5 different Cubs pitchers with his usual great job behind the dish. Rich Garbarino added depth to a Cubs pitching staff that gave up just 3 singles and one earned run on the afternoon. Chris Dunn pitched a hitless first 3 innings (striking out 5) for the win. Meanwhile, the Cubs bats were hot right out of the gate. Led by Skipper Jim McQuade, who had a double, triple and 4 RBIs; the Cubs rang up 22 hits. The 1 thru 4 hitters (Bryce Cutler, Shawn Maney, Mike Girard, and Dave Mitchell) were all 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's each.
Wayne Newcomb, Mike Surin, and Tim Borwick had the 3 hits for the Jays.
The Cubs all wish the best to Paul Post, who took a bad hop off the face, as he was diving for a Dave Mitchell smash in the 4th inning. Feel better Paul! We hope to see you back out on the field real soon!
