Well, maybe not ALL over the place as the big fly's were just our usual suspects. Ryno's MAMMOTH shot in the bottom of third was unquestionably the momentum changer. We were down 4-0 and had two outs with two strikes, only a strike away from heading to the fourth with the same deficit and them batting again, well, he launched a no-doubter into the teeth of wind scoring myself and new addition Jim "Bones" Bonaparty' (note the spelling). Our other new more coveted addition, Greg "Whit" Witaleck got the W in his Bomber debut as well as going two for four at the plate and contributing to the Big Grey hit parade which produced 19 of them... And all except one in the last 4 innings we batted. The Lexter went 3 for 4 with a walk and his only out being a smoked liner to CF opening the bottom of the first... And the aforementioned Bones also went 3 for 4 while everyone else had two hits except the one guy who shall go unnamed that only had 1! haha ~ and NO, it was NOT me!
Darnel "Bakes" Bakes (or call him Mr Cadillac if you'd prefer, just don't ask me why except that's e-addy) pitched a stellar 3 innings of relief to get the Save as yes, you get one when you come in and it is a one run game and then your team proceeds to blow it wide open from that point on... In fact, we had just taken our first lead, a slim 7-6 advantage after a nice squeeze play in the bottom of the 4th when Richy "I'm not that Rich" Royka showed off the leather and his incredible wing span at first base by leaping and snagging an almost sure game tying liner off the bat of a Royal in the top of the 5th whe Darnell had come in to relieve Wit... Or os it Whit? hmmm...
Anyways, Ryno hit another Bomb to dead center that feel just in front of the fence and continued his legendary CDMSBL status as a potential MVP candidate (if we even had such in the 45's anyways)... Mikey "Big Dog Reutter also continued his equally legendary status as a big Bomber with one off the top of the fence somewhere during the hit parade as at one point the merry-go-round was going so fast and we were scoring so fast it was hard to keep track with only 9 guys in the line-up as boy it turns over fast when everyone is poking it around like that... And the newcomers to the fold showed their game mettle (or is it game medal?) as Bones and Wit both were welcomed openly and earned their keep right outta the gate... Though again, it's long way to go for sure ~ and with the Giants coming up next week in a rematch of last year's Championship (debacle of sorts from my perspective) ~ we'll see how it goes from here on out... And then straight to the Cubs for week three... So yeah, we'll soon see as after a Jorge Sepulveda sighting today, we obviously have as high of expectations as usual and will only consider this a successful season should we win it all... Today was fun and a nice comeback after the Royals dominated the first 2 2/3 innings of the game... But it's not only a long season ~ only late September when it truly counts is what matters for most of us... The rest is all good along the way and it's fun regardless of what else happens... Heck, it's even been fun losing to the Giants ~ EVERY single year! lmao...
Well not that much fun...
And just planning on making this year the year we finally take them down! And of course we'd BOTH be foolish to overlook Jimmy Mac and Mikey G's Cubs crew as they could absolutely take either of us out on any given day as well...
And as the season starts and with the whole Purple Rain thing happening last week, well, I am just grateful for the CDMSBL and all it provides to me and each of us as I am blessed to be out there feeling like a kid again if for a few minutes at this advanced age... Plus as we all face our life struggles, it is a thing of beauty to befriend each and every one of you on some level... Some more than others of course but yeah ~ you each bring something to the league and I appreciate that... Never mind I can be an a-hole at times and such, I genuinely beseech your forgiveness... It's great to be a part of another opening day and put this one in the books... Hopefully we ALL even make it to aforementioned time in September and in case we don't ~ or even if we do... Go Hug the ones you love... Especially your dogs ~ love your dogs... love them good and solid like they do you... And forgive those who have hurt you... Suit up, show up, and pray up... Best chance we all got... This is all going away one day... One day soon...
