The Board of Directors used this year's extra day to move the league forward and in three plus hours this is what we accomplished.........
The playoff format for the 45 division was approved. The format will basically be the same as last season. The top six teams get a first round bye while the lower eight seeds will enter a double-elimination tournament for two spots in the next round. During the weekend of the first round the top six teams will play an extra game among themselves.
Brian Allen, Ed Rogers and Ken Goldfarb attended the meeting to discuss the possibility of starting a 60+ "division". The idea is to organize pick-up style games on Saturday mornings for players in that age group. Brian Allen reported that the managers in the 55 division had been contacted for their feedback. Unfortunately, the response from interested players has not been very strong. If you are interested in playing with this group, please contact either Ed Rogers at sned57@hotmail.com or Ken Goldfarb at kennewsman@yahoo.com.
The Finance Committee continues to establish standard operating procedures for the league treasury.
The Marketing Committee is consulting with a local web site designer (who has ties to CDMSBL) in an effort to improve the league web site. Two primary focuses are improving the registration process for new players and creating an opportunity to highlight league sponsors.
One of the things to consider when discussing website improvements: Is it possible to incorporate the use of "GameChanger" which is an online application that allows you to keep score and update games in real time. If everyone used it, results would be posted quicker, scores would be far more accurate and we would lose the discrepancies that are far too frequent in discerning a hit vs. and error.
Plus, those who want to know how the stats stack up late in the season would have a much better picture since stats would be uploaded as games happen.
Thoughts?
I know the Bears and the Warriors used it in the 33's last year and by the end of the season it was the preferred method of scoring for both teams.
I can mention this to the group helping us with the web site. I am no expert on web sites. I can't even remember if you spell it with one word or two! In our initial conversation I was told that our ability to make changes to the site may be limited because we subscribe to a service as opposed to managing our own site. We can see what the consulting group can do with your idea.
Rob, I believe Game Changer can be used by any team without any special implementation. However, perhaps we could pursue working with Game Changer as a promotional opportunity. Although its a free app as it stands, so not sure what the benefits would be on either side.
