Rather suddenly, former player, manager and commissioner Chris Bearup passed away at the age of 43. He leaves behind a wife, a one-year-old son and a 12 year old daughter from a previous relationship.
Chris was my teammate for many years and we managed a team in the old CDNABA which is now the 18+ division.
Chris was a good 1B but also a great teammate and friend. There are so many great stories of travails on the baseball diamond and most of mine involve Chris. His smile was infectious, his banter in the dugout was unmatched and his loyalty to friends and teammates was unquestioned.
Even though he "retired" from baseball two years ago, I always thought I could coax him into playing again (and tried several times). He will be sorely missed.
So rest in peace, my friend - until we have a catch again....
So terribly sad, Rob, especially at such a young age with young kids and a wife. May your memories be everlasting and he rest in eternal peace. jimk giants
Saw Mickey the other day and he told me this AWFUL news. Chris was awesome!! Such a kind man is lost yet again. Hug your loved ones closely my friends. Love hard every single day.
Viewing services for Chris are tomorrow from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home and a memorial service will be held at the same place Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m.
