Avengers came close ..............

The Avengers went out to a 3-1 lead in the 3rd against the San Diego Padres in Saturday mornings final on a single by Buchan with follow up hits by Avengers SS, RF and LF. They extended the lead to 6-1 in the 4th with Buchan providing a bases loaded single to left center bringing in two of the runs. Right-hander, Bob Paarlberg, went the first 5 innings in the heat with Kervan coming on in relief as the Padres had tied it up 6-6. Avengers manufactured a run in the 6th and brought home 2 runs in the 7th. Padres put up a run in the 6th and 7th with the teams going into the 9th with a score 9-7 Avengers. Avengers could not extend in the top of the 9th. Padres first batter walked but was erased at 2B on a grounder to second baseman with Avengers not able to turn the DP. Next batter struck out. A Padres single put runners on 1B and 2B. Runners moved up on a passed ball and next batter walked to load the bases. Next batter grounded to SS with the ball bounding off his chest but right to the bag where the Avengers second baseman just couldnt pick up the ball for the 3rd out. Next batter singled up the middle out of reach of Avengers SS with the Padres walking off in a 10-9 hard fought win. Both teams played well with the Padres continually coming from behind and finally getting it done. Good week for the Avengers. Kervan finished the day with 4 innings pitched, 2/2 at the plate and Buchan at 1B for the entire game and coming up with a 2/4 day at the plate.

Avengers were playing this one for manager/catcher, Ron Michaelson, who had to spend the day in the hospital with what turned out to be heat exhaustion/dehydration from the previous day. Some concerns for Ron were that he took a very hard foul directly off the front of the mask in Fridays win, but getting rehydrated at the hospital turned out to be the answer. Best wishes to our manager Ron Michaelson.

Thanks for the reports Brad. Sounds like you were steam rolling some of those poor boys. That's a great run in some very tough weather. Glad your catcher is recuperating.
